In 2015 NPR Music opened up their much-lauded Tiny Desk Concert series to the general public by way of the Tiny Desk Contest. Through this contest musicians had the opportunity to submit a video performance of an original song for consideration for a Tiny Desk Concert at NPR’s studio and a mini-tour.
Initially I entered because, despite the long-shot quality of the enterprise, it seemed like a great fit for my music and the exposure offered would be substantial. But, as the contest proceeded through the first year, it became apparent to me that the real prize was that this contest brought together many talented, often under-appreciated, artists through a platform that elevated, encouraged and inspired.
When NPR Music announced that they would do it again in 2016, I jumped on it. By 2017 we were planning ahead in hopes that it would continue. Here are my three entries. I think they are among the best work I’ve produced. I hope you agree.
