Hi All, It’s been a while but only because it’s been a busy time. We’ve been having a great US run with the one and only John Legend. It’s an honor to take the stage with John and this remarkable band. The crowds have been alive and the cities have been fun. I’m about to wrap this leg with John and join the incomparable Jill Scott for her US tour. In the autumn, we’ll head to Europe with John but before we do that, I’ll release my new EP, Salt, on 8/23 at Johnny Brenda’s along with the ever-so-lovely Hurricane Hoss. I hope you can join us for this special show! All the best.
I can’t wait to break the band out again 3/9 at Ortliebs with my new friends Skrizzly Adams and Katie Frank. This is my first time playing a BANDADE event ( http://www.mybandademusic.com/ ), a charity dedicated to helping those battling cancer, and I find it deeply gratifying to join my music with this cause. It’s a treat to share the stage with Skrizzly and Katie, both talented artists and songwriters. I hope you can join us for this positive event!
I’ve been very fortunate to play for John Legend for about a year and a half. We’ve played some big shows, seen some wild places and generally had a good time. Since late November/early December we’ve been in full on promo mode for his new album, Darkness and Light. We’ve performed on Good Morning America, James Corden, The NBA All-Star half time, NHL100, at shows for Pandora and Amazon, The NAACP Image awards and a host of other radio and live performances. It’s been quite a ride and I’m thankful to be a part. This image is from the Museum of Fine Art Houston, where we played a Super Bowl party. It was one of the cooler venues I’ve had the privilege to play.
Now, I’m looking forward to playing my own music 3/9 at Ortlieb’s in Philadelphia as part of a BANDADE charity event. I hope you can join!
I’m so happy that the folks at NPR Music continue to provide a positive platform for the creative community through their Tiny Desk Contest. For the 3rd straight year I wrote a new tune, twisted a few talented arms, and submitted a music video that I’m genuinely proud of.
This year I did a tune called Dust and Gold with a haunting prepared-guitar part and beautiful horn arrangement by Chris Stevens (w/ Chris Stevens and Sam Greenfield accompanying). The lyrics ponder the choices we make and how we strive for meaning in spite of oft-changing and frequently daunting circumstances. I hope you enjoy it!
