Grammy nominated artist, Ben O’Neill (guitarist, singer, songwriter), has played with some of the best known names in Pop, Hip Hop and R&B including John Legend, Jill Scott, Common, Sting, Kanye West, Christina Aguilera, Kid Cudi, and more. As an original member of Tye Tribbett’s famed “Soundcheck” band he was part of a movement that redefined the genre of Gospel music. He has co-written songs with Tye Tribbett and Bilal, and appeared on albums with Musiq Soulchild, Estelle, Vivian Green, Tre Songz, Jordin Sparks and famed musicians Adam Blackstone, Christian McBride, Jonathan Dubose Jr. and Chris Dave. Additional performance credits include: Miguel, Erykah Badu, Jennifer Hudson, will.i.am, Questlove, Black Thought, Pharell, CeeLo Green, Jazmine Sullivan, Jason Nelson, and TV shows such as GMA, Ellen, Kimmel, Conan, Letterman, Leno and Live from the Artists Den.
In addition to his varied work as a sideman, Ben is the frontman of his own Rock/Singer/Songwriter project, that aims to meld influences as diverse as Paul Simon, Bob Dylan, Duke Ellington and Pat Metheny into a richly melodic, lyrically insightful ecosystem that is both adventurous and accessible. This project has been played on WXPN, WSTW and has appeared at The Made In America and Taste of DC festivals as well as clubs large and small in the New York, Philadelphia and DC areas. Since 2012 he has released an album (Ghosts and Green Shoots), an album of remixes (More Ghosts), two collaborative EPs with electronic producer RVLVR, (Stiff Upper Lip and Vol. 1) a 12 part, live-in-studio, video series called “Songwriter Sessions: A monthly, year-long exploration of American song,” and a host of other videos. His latest EP, Salt, was released in August of 2017.
Ben is currently a governor of the Philadelphia chapter of the Recording Academy and a member of the guitar faculty at The University of The Arts where he has taught private lessons, ensembles and a guitar recording class.
