Well, we’ve come to the end of our 12 part series, Songwriter Sessions. What a fun and enriching experience is was to create and learn in the context of interpreting great works from American songwriters. This project created a framework in which I could express my diverse range of influences and allowed me to create with some very talented musicians, engineers and videographers. The criteria for choosing material was that they had to be American, excellent and represent different eras, races, genders and genres. Duke, Dylan, Stevie, Cary Ann Hearst, Jason Isbell… I think we got it right. Also, I had to be able find a sincere and fresh place from which I could sing the songs of other writers. Honestly, I’m happy with that, too.
We’ve saved the best for last: Still Crazy After All These Years by Paul Simon. Paul Simon is my favorite songwriter. In my opinion, no one can match the combined height of his lyrical and musical artistry. Thank you for all the music and inspiration, Paul.
In addition to all the musicians and engineers who sowed into this project, I’d like to thank several companies who supported us: AKG Microphones (all vocals were recorded with AKG mics), Paul Reed Smith Guitars, Black Diamond Strings, Steven Jon Productions and Sean Comber Productions.
